Short answer: the Stormbox Micro 2, and it wins on the numbers. It ranks #1 of 47 small speakers at $50; the Willen ranks #14 at a discontinued $120.
Bass and output both favor the Tribit. The Micro 2 reaches 65 Hz at -10dB against the Willen’s 75 Hz, and hits 94dB max volume against 88dB. Our own notes call the Micro 2 best in class and very neutral; the Willen’s cons list a sharp treble on top of already-thin bass.
What the Willen still has going for it is vocal clarity and styling. Reviewers single out exceptionally clear vocals for a mono speaker, in Marshall’s durable, pocketable build. That’s a real reason it was picked, and it still holds a top-third ranking despite being out of production.
It’s discontinued, so buying new isn’t an option. If Marshall’s design language is specifically what you want, see discontinued speakers still worth buying before shopping used, or look at the current Marshall Willen II, which replaced it.
Buy the Stormbox Micro 2 for the best small speaker sold today, at under half the Willen’s price. Consider the Willen only secondhand, and only for the styling.

Tribit Stormbox Micro 2: $34.19 Aliexpress Amazon
Pros: Best in class sound. Much deeper bass than most other speakers in the size. Built in strap is super useful for attaching it to things. Very neutral. To have it aimed directly at you unclip the strap and the speaker will sit upright with a slight lean back.
Cons: Finicky phone charging, which doesn’t usually work.
Setup: Use in Music EQ mode, when you switch to custom it’s not able to boost the bass properly as it is missing an EQ band that Music EQ mode uses
