Loxjie D40 Pro vs Topping DX5 II

What the Loxjie D40 Pro does well: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 123 dB, so noise and distortion are inaudible and it is fully transparent. The catch: At 24 cm wide and 2.4 lbs (1.1 kg) it needs a good amount of desk space.

The case for the Topping DX5 II: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 122 dB, so its noise and distortion are inaudible. It supports aptX Adaptive Bluetooth, which the Loxjie D40 Pro lacks. The catch: The Topping DX1 II shares its rating for well under half the price and still delivers about 1 W into 32 ohms, which is plenty for most headphones.

Pros: Audio Science Review measured a SINAD of 123 dB, so noise and distortion are inaudible and it is fully transparent. It is rated at 3,000 mW into 32 ohms and 700 mW into 300 ohms, enough for nearly any headphone, through 6.35 mm, 4.4 mm balanced and 4-pin XLR outputs. Inputs include USB, optical, coaxial, AES/EBU, I2S over HDMI and Bluetooth with LDAC and aptX HD, and it matches the SMSL DO400 for less.

Cons: At 24 cm wide and 1.1 kg it needs a good amount of desk space. The Sabaj A20d 2023 rates the same for less if you don’t need this much power or the XLR headphone jack.
