The bigger, pricier RP-6000F II actually measures worse in some ways that matter. Erin’s Audio Corner calls the RP-5000F II the most tonally coherent of the entire RP II floorstander line, with only a mild baffle-step dip and treble tilt. The RP-6000F II shows a wider 3 to 4dB baffle-step swing against the RP-5000F II’s 2dB, plus a sibilance issue the smaller speaker doesn’t have at all, described as a real regression in tonal balance despite the higher price.
Bass extension is genuinely mixed between the two. The RP-6000F II reaches deeper at -10dB, 33Hz against the RP-5000F II’s 41Hz, thanks to its larger dual 6.5 inch woofers versus the RP-5000F II’s dual 5.25 inch woofers. But at -3dB the RP-5000F II is actually tighter at 55Hz against the RP-6000F II’s 67Hz. Both still benefit from a subwoofer for full-range use regardless of which you pick.
The RP-6000F II does hold real advantages in power handling. It’s rated for 125W continuous and 500W peak against the RP-5000F II’s 100W continuous and 400W peak, and Erin’s Audio Corner notes clean, well-behaved compression at typical volumes. Both share the same 1 inch titanium Tractrix horn tweeter, identical measured 90dB sensitivity, and similarly narrow horizontal dispersion around 50 to 60 degrees.
Buy the Klipsch RP-5000F II. It measures more tonally coherent, ranks higher for sound quality, and costs less, so the RP-6000F II only makes sense if the extra power handling and slightly deeper -10dB bass extension matter more to you than its measured tonal regression.
