Kali LP-UNF vs IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Short answer: it depends on whether you want dispersion or a full kit. The Kali LP-UNF crosses its 1 inch dome at an unusually low 1.9kHz for about ±30-40° of vertical dispersion, but rolls off quickly below 40Hz and bottoms out near 50Hz in-room. The iLoud MTM MKII is a 100W-per-speaker MTM with XLR input sold as a pair with an ARC mic, but its treble runs about 3dB hot and the -3dB switch overcorrects.

Kali LP-UNF vs IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII

The case for the Kali LP-UNF: 1” dome tweeter on a waveguide crossed unusually low at 1.9kHz to a 4.5” ported midwoofer, giving wide vertical dispersion (about ±30-40° off the tweeter/mid reference axis) for a two-way design - well beyond the typical ±10-15°. The catch: F3 of 54Hz and F10 of 39Hz mean bass rolls off quickly below about 40Hz, bottoming out around 50Hz in-room.

What the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII gets right: Compact MTM layout (two 3.5” midwoofers flanking a 1” tweeter) powered monitor rated at 100W per speaker with XLR input, sold as a pair with an ARC room-correction microphone included. Set against that: Native treble tuning still runs about 3dB hot on-axis; the back-panel -3dB treble switch overcorrects, and roughly -1.5dB via external EQ works better.

Buy the Kali LP-UNF if the price is the priority over sound quality, or the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII if sound quality is the priority over the price.

Kali LP-UNF ranking card

Pros: A practical compact desktop system with USB-C, analog inputs and Bluetooth, plus extensive placement switches. Erin’s Klippel data gives -3dB bass around 54Hz and scores of 4.60 standalone and 6.67 with an ideal subwoofer. The low crossover and waveguide provide useful freedom of listening height for a two-way design, and moderate-level distortion is well controlled in the review. The 1.9kHz crossover gives vertical coverage of about ±30 to 40°, well beyond the typical ±10 to 15° of a two-way. Measured bass extension of 54Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 88.1dB.

Cons: The 2.9dB midrange span masks local response ripples; listening-window narrow-band deviation of 0.467 is behind the best monitors. The review finds limiting around 91dB/1m per speaker. No dedicated subwoofer output means integration requires suitable external routing or bass management. Its strength is affordable close listening, not top-tier tonal accuracy or high-output room playback.

IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII ranking card

Older model: the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM (ranked lower, rated 4.1/5).

Pros: Erin’s MKII measurements give a 2.2dB midrange span, a -3dB point around 53Hz, and preference scores of 5.22 standalone and 7.44 with an ideal subwoofer. The compact layout and included calibration microphone suit a close desktop setup. Existing tests show useful room-peak correction and good harmonic-distortion behavior at moderate levels. Measured bass extension of 52.7Hz (-3dB).

Cons: Some excess treble remains in the native tuning. The two-woofer MTM arrangement narrows the vertical listening window, so ear height and orientation matter. Multitone distortion rises strongly when pushed toward 96dB/1m; the review favors moderate listening levels, and a subwoofer does not eliminate all midrange output limits. These are MKII results, not measurements of the original MTM. Treble runs about 3dB hot on-axis; the rear -3dB treble switch overcorrects, and about -1.5dB of external EQ works better.
