Older models: the JBL Xtreme 3 (ranked lower, rated 4.3/5), the JBL Xtreme 4 (ranked lower, rated 3.8/5), the JBL Xtreme 2 (ranked lower, rated 3.4/5) and the JBL Xtreme (ranked lower, rated 3.2/5).
Pros: Removable battery. Quite deep bass, reaching well below 40Hz. A fantastic sounding speaker with excellent off-axis dispersion, a big step up from older JBL portables. Beats the Soundcore Boom 2 and Tribit Stormbox Blast on bass depth and clarity. Plays clean at volume, unlike the JBL Boombox 4.
Cons: High priced. Some bass boost. A hole in the mid-upper bass which can’t be EQ’d out. Default EQ presets are weak (Signature is boring, Chill and Vocal are close to unusable): needs the custom EQ to sound its best. Bigger and heavier than the Xtreme 4.

Pros: In Jagist’s side by side tests, the Bang 2 (after its firmware update) was picked over the Soundcore Boom 2 and over the JBL Xtreme 5, which distorted at high volume, and it kept its bass above 40% volume where the Tribit Stormbox Lava fell apart. Listeners also mostly preferred it to the JBL Xtreme 4. A racetrack woofer, two tweeters and two passive radiators are rated for 90W and 105dB. Tronsmart rates the battery at 26 hours at half volume with the lights off, and it adds IPX6 water resistance, a handle plus a detachable shoulder strap, app EQ, light effects, stereo and multi-speaker pairing, aux, TF card and USB playback, and a USB-C power bank.
Cons: Verdicts against the Boom 2 and the Lava were split: Dominik Reviews preferred the Boom 2, and several listeners found the Bang 2’s mids muffled and its highs subdued without custom EQ. Next to the Tronsmart Fiitune X30 it turned into a jumble of sound near full volume, and the EarFun UBoom X clearly beat it. It needed a firmware update to sound its best, and at 2.63 kg it is heavy for its size.
