JBL Xtreme 4 vs Soundcore Motion X500

Last updated: August 13, 2026

Short answer: the Soundcore Motion X500. It ranks #24 of 77 large speakers by sound quality at $99.99; the JBL Xtreme 4 ranks #37 and costs $380, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.

The case for the JBL Xtreme 4: It has a removable battery, digs slightly deeper into the bass than the Xtreme 3, and a widely-shared custom EQ can get the best out of it. The catch: it costs a lot, leans bass-boosted out of the box, has an uncorrectable dip between the upper bass and midrange that gives it an odd character, and pushes upper-mids and treble at high volume.

What the Soundcore Motion X500 gets right: 40W of stereo sound from a 3-driver layout (two tweeters plus a woofer), an IPX7 weatherproof rating, a compact, well-built, and very portable design for the price, an immersive Spatial Dynamic mode, and battery life that lands close to its 12-hour claim. Set against that: it runs a little bright on top (correctable with a custom EQ), with peaks around 250Hz and a dip at 1kHz.

Buy the Soundcore Motion X500. It ranks higher for sound quality than the JBL Xtreme 4 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.

If battery life is a priority, the JBL Xtreme 4 is rated for 24 hours versus 12 hours for the Soundcore Motion X500.

Pros: Removable battery. Slightly deeper bass than Xtreme 3. Use this EQ for the best sound quality.

Cons: High priced. Some bass boost. Dip in the upper bass to midrange makes it sound strange which cannot be EQd out. Some upper mids and treble boost at high levels.
