JBL Xtreme 4 vs Dali Katch G1

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Xtreme 4. It ranks #44 of 102 large speakers by sound quality (rated 3.8/5) at $309.95 and is still sold new; the Dali Katch G1 ranks #83 (rated 2.8/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used.

JBL Xtreme 4 vs Dali Katch G1

The JBL Xtreme 4 is the better-sounding pick. A rugged 4.6 lbs (2.1 kg) portable with IP67 protection, a replaceable battery, USB-C power-bank output, Auracast, stereo pairing and a useful 5-band app EQ. It links with other speakers (Auracast), which the Dali Katch G1 cannot. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Dali Katch G1 lacks. The catch: It cannot produce the deep rumble of a larger speaker, and bass compression increases near maximum volume.

The Dali Katch G1 is the lighter option. Pretty neutral. At 2.4 lbs (1.1 kg) it weighs much less than the JBL Xtreme 4 at 4.6 lbs (2.1 kg). It supports aptX Bluetooth, which the JBL Xtreme 4 lacks. It keeps a wired aux input, which the JBL Xtreme 4 lacks. Watch for: Loses bass quickly after 40% volume.

Buy the JBL Xtreme 4. It is rated higher for sound quality; the Dali Katch G1 is no longer sold new.

Newer model: the JBL Xtreme 5, ranked higher, rated 4.6/5.

Pros: A rugged 2.1kg portable with IP67 protection, a replaceable battery, USB-C power-bank output, Auracast, stereo pairing and a useful 5-band app EQ. Independent reviews find the midrange detailed and the sound clear, punchy and refined for outdoor use; it also reaches a strong 106dB maximum level and has excellent real-world battery life.

Cons: It cannot produce the deep rumble of a larger speaker, and bass compression increases near maximum volume. The front-facing layout has only modest off-axis consistency, Bluetooth latency is high for video, and the default balance benefits from EQ adjustment. There is no aux input, so wired sources are not supported. Out of the box it leans bass-boosted, with a dip between the upper bass and midrange that EQ cannot fix, and it pushes the upper mids and treble at high volume. It is also expensive.

Newer model: the Dali Katch G2, ranked higher, rated 2.8/5.

Pros: Pretty neutral

Cons: Loses bass quickly after 40% volume. A lot of compression artifacts at high volume. External AC power brick for charging. Discontinued, superseded by the Dali Katch G2, which sounds nearly identical. Reverb added to the output screws up the imaging. Quite a hollow character to the sound.
