The XG300’s own cons are unusually long for a speaker marketed on sound. Bass that doesn’t reach as deep as competitors, an upper mids peak, a hollow character, rolled-off treble, and a volume that turns itself down automatically rather than holding steady, all while our notes call it overly expensive for what it delivers.
The Xtreme 3 has real flaws of its own, boosted bass and less balance than the best in its class, but it improved on the Xtreme 2 in both treble and bass extension, and our notes call it more balanced than the Xtreme 4 that eventually replaced it.
Buy the Xtreme 3 for the meaningfully better measured sound. Buy the XG300 only if LDAC codec support or its retractable handle are worth the tradeoffs to you.
