Short answer: it depends on whether sound quality or price matters more. The JBL Partybox 130 ranks #7 of 53 party speakers at $449.95. The JBL Partybox 300 ranks #10 at $300, $149.95 less. The JBL Partybox 300 is discontinued; its replacement is the JBL Partybox 330.
The 300’s Pros callout is blunt about why it still ranks well: exceptional sound quality with crisp, crystal clear highs and midranges, and hard, punchy bass without muddiness, from its 2x 6.5” woofers and 3x 2.25” tweeters. The tradeoff is size and handling: it is hard to carry, too tall, and drags on the ground, and its own cons note there is little reason to choose it over the newer JBL Partybox 100.
The 130 wins on convenience and connectivity, not raw power. It is rated at 200W against the 300’s 120W and adds a removable battery, Auracast party mode, USB-C power bank output, and a 7-band EQ, none of which the 300 has. Its own cons callout is just as blunt as the 300’s pros: boomier and less clear than the Partybox 120, and a high price for what it offers.
There is a real gap in water resistance: the 130 carries an IPX4 rating; the 300 has none at all.
Buy the JBL Partybox 130 if you want current availability, water resistance, and app-based EQ control.
Buy the JBL Partybox 300 used if outright sound quality is the priority and you are comfortable buying a discontinued model without a warranty.
