Short answer: the JBL Go 4, narrowly. Prices are effectively level at $49.95 and $50, but the Go 4 ranks #27 of 49 against #37 for the Clip. The Go 4 fixed the Go 3’s strange mids peak and added a little more bass, though past about 50% volume it still has not much bass; the Clip is very compact and light at 5.3 oz with a carabiner and quite a lack of bass.
Buy the JBL Go 4. It is rated higher for sound quality; the JBL Clip is no longer sold new.
If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Go 4 at IP67 (brief submersion) holds up far better than the JBL Clip at no water resistance.

Pros: A little more bass than the Go 3 and they fixed the strange mids peak. Measured bass extension of ~82Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Not much bass at all, especially with electronic/bass-heavy tracks pushed past ~50% volume. Midrange can sound grainy and treble a bit sizzly; loses clarity at higher volumes.

Newer model: the JBL Clip 5, ranked higher, rated 3.4/5.
Pros: Very compact and light (5.3 oz) with an integrated carabiner. Has its own built-in 3.5mm aux cable, so you don’t need to carry one separately. Measured bass extension of ~95Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Quite a lack of bass. Mids are a little hollow. Discontinued.
