JBL Flip 7 vs Minirig 4

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Short answer: the Minirig 4 for better sound quality, the JBL Flip 7 for the lower price. The Minirig 4 ranks #6 of 136 medium speakers at $229.95. The JBL Flip 7 ranks #14 at $129.95, $100 cheaper.

What the JBL Flip 7 offers: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size. Just slightly more treble than the Flip 6 which was already a great speaker. The catch: A little bit of a bump at 4khz, not quite as neutral as the FLip 6. I believe this one is slightly worse than the Flip 6.

The case for the Minirig 4: Modular, can easily attach a subwoofer. Finally USB-C charging. Dynamically changes sound based on forward facing or upward facing orientation. The tradeoff: Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating. App is buggy.

Buy the JBL Flip 7 if the price matters more than sound quality. Buy the Minirig 4 if sound quality matters more than the price.

If battery life is a priority, the Minirig 4 is rated for 30 hours versus 14 hours for the JBL Flip 7.

If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Flip 7 at IP68 (extended submersion) holds up far better than the Minirig 4 at Splash resistant (splashing).
