Short answer: the JBL Flip 6. It ranks #12 of 135 medium speakers by sound quality at $114.95; the Xiaomi Sound Party ranks #19 and costs $133.62, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.
What the JBL Flip 6 gets right: A very neutral sound in a small, almost pocket-sized speaker that’s a huge sound quality leap over the Flip 5. Set against that: it’s not stereo, there’s some slight upper-mids emphasis, and the Vietnam-made TL version’s tweeter can sound somewhat scratchy compared to the China-made GG version.
The case for the Xiaomi Sound Party: A pretty balanced overall sound that’s more neutral than the JBL Charge 5, a nice visual effect from its passive radiator, clean playback out of the box (unlike the JBL Charge 6’s default tuning, which has noticeable mid distortion), better off-axis dispersion than the VIFA Helsinki thanks to its tweeter, and one of the best price-to-performance ratios in its size class. The catch: bass can sound slightly thuddy at high volume with a 180Hz peak, it can’t match the Soundcore Boom 2 for raw bass output and loudness, and bass and treble are both noticeably boosted by default, which neutral-sound listeners may want to EQ down.
Buy the JBL Flip 6. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Xiaomi Sound Party and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.
If battery life is a priority, the Xiaomi Sound Party is rated for 26 hours versus 12 hours for the JBL Flip 6.
