JBL Flip 6 vs Sony SRS-XB20

Last updated: August 28, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Flip 6. It ranks #12 of 136 medium speakers by sound quality at $114.95; the Sony SRS-XB20 ranks #94 and costs $129, so there is little reason to consider the other one.

What the JBL Flip 6 offers: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size, a huge sound quality leap over the Flip 5. Watch for: Not stereo. Some slight upper mids emphasis. The TL version (made in Vietnam) tweeter can sound somewhat scratchy and doesn’t sound as good as the GG version (made in China)

What the Sony SRS-XB20 offers: IPX5 rated pill shape slides easily into a bag. 12 hour battery life. Watch for: Sounds thin at higher volumes. Bass falls away quickly.

Buy the JBL Flip 6. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Sony SRS-XB20 and costs less, which settles it without a real tradeoff to make.
