JBL Flip 6 vs Sonos Play

Last updated: September 16, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Flip 6. It ranks #12 of 142 medium speakers by sound quality at $129.95; the Sonos Play ranks #50 and costs $299, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.

JBL Flip 6 vs Sonos Play

What the JBL Flip 6 offers: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size, a huge sound quality leap over the Flip 5. Watch for: Not stereo. Some slight upper mids emphasis. The TL version (made in Vietnam) tweeter can sound somewhat scratchy and doesn’t sound as good as the GG version (made in China)

What the Sonos Play offers: Genuinely wide, clean stereo dispersion off-axis thanks to the two angled tweeters, holding up from the side far better than most portables. Loudness processing keeps it sounding full-bodied at low volume. 24-hour user-replaceable battery with an included wireless charging base, IP67 waterproof and dustproof, and full Sonos WiFi multi-room with AirPlay 2 on top of Bluetooth 5.3. Watch for: Bass distorts noticeably on bass-heavy tracks at default settings, and the distortion persists even after enabling Trueplay tuning and manually pulling bass back in the app. Sounds boxy and short on clarity next to cheaper competitors.

Buy the JBL Flip 6. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Sonos Play and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.

Battery life favors the Sonos Play: rated for 24 hours against 12 hours for the JBL Flip 6.
