Short answer: the Flip 6, and the ranking gap makes the extra $19.05 an easy call. It ranks #13 of 179 medium speakers at $79.95; the XG5 ranks #150 at $99.
The XG5’s feature list is real: IP67 rating, 18-hour battery, and Wireless Party Link for up to 10 speakers. Our notes are blunt about the sound itself: peaky midrange, rolled-off treble, not very good sounding.
The Flip 6 is described as a huge sound quality leap over the Flip 5, very neutral and nearly pocket-sized. Its only real complaints are a slight upper mids emphasis and inconsistency between the two manufacturing variants.
Buy the Flip 6. The measured gap here is one of the largest on the site for this small a price difference.
There is a real battery-life gap here: the LG Xboom XG5 is rated for 18 hours, the JBL Flip 6 only 12 hours.
