Neither speaker is much of a departure from the model it replaced. Reviewers call the Clip 5 generally more of the same from the Clip series in terms of sound but with more features, and basically about the same as the Clip 4. The SRS-XB100 gets a similar note: reviewers describe it as seeming pretty much the same as the XB13, maybe a teeny bit deeper bass and a little less muddy.
What the SRS-XB100 offers instead: long real-world battery life at around 17 hours in testing, and the ability to stereo-pair two units, though its main complaint is that there isn’t much bass.
Buy the JBL Clip 5. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Sony SRS-XB100 and costs less, so only choose the other one for a particular feature it does better.
