Last updated: August 21, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Boombox 4 for better sound quality, the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 for the lower price. The JBL Boombox 4 ranks #17 of 73 boombox speakers at $549.95. The Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 ranks #67 at $199.99, $349.96 cheaper.

The case for the JBL Boombox 4: Pretty insane output capability for the size, with 7-band EQ for better tuning than the Boombox 3. Set against that: It’s overpriced for the category, sounds worse than the Boombox 3 out of the box, and drops Aux input entirely.

What the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 gets right: 100 hour battery life. 270° sound coverage, stereo output. IPX4 weather-resistant. Watch for: Bass not as deep as competitors, less neutral than ION speakers. Very heavy.

Buy the JBL Boombox 4 if sound quality matters more than the price. Buy the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 if the price matters more than sound quality.

If sound quality matters at all to you, skip the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270. It ranks near the bottom of the 73 boombox speakers, so look higher up the list instead.

If battery life is a priority, the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 is rated for 100 hours versus 28 hours for the JBL Boombox 4.

If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Boombox 4 at IP68 (extended submersion) holds up far better than the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 at IPX4 (splashing).

Pros: Pretty insane output capability for the size.

Cons: Pretty overpriced for the category. Better than the Boombox 3 mostly because there are more 7 EQ bands instead of just 3 and it can be better tuned. Try Oluv’s EQ for it. Out of the box sounds worse than the Boombox 3. No Aux input.
