IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII vs IK Multimedia iLoud MTM

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Short answer: the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII, mainly for the included ARC room-correction microphone. Both are compact MTM monitors with two 3.5-inch midwoofers flanking a 1-inch tweeter, 100W per speaker, and XLR input, and both run about 3dB hot in the treble on-axis with the -3dB back-panel switch overcorrecting. The MKII adds the included ARC mic and is sold as a pair, while the original MTM’s linearity suits desktop mixing.

IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII vs IK Multimedia iLoud MTM

On the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM side: Compact MTM layout (two 3.5” midwoofers flanking a 1” tweeter) powered monitor with 100W per speaker and XLR input, well-suited to desktop/nearfield use with great linearity for mixing or mastering. Set against that: Native treble tuning runs hot (about 3dB boosted on-axis); the reviewer found the back-panel -3dB switch too aggressive and preferred roughly -1.5dB via external EQ instead.

Buy the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM is discontinued.

IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII ranking card

Older model: the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM (ranked lower, rated 4.1/5).

Pros: Erin’s MKII measurements give a 2.2dB midrange span, a -3dB point around 53Hz, and preference scores of 5.22 standalone and 7.44 with an ideal subwoofer. The compact layout and included calibration microphone suit a close desktop setup. Existing tests show useful room-peak correction and good harmonic-distortion behavior at moderate levels. Measured bass extension of 52.7Hz (-3dB).

Cons: Some excess treble remains in the native tuning. The two-woofer MTM arrangement narrows the vertical listening window, so ear height and orientation matter. Multitone distortion rises strongly when pushed toward 96dB/1m; the review favors moderate listening levels, and a subwoofer does not eliminate all midrange output limits. These are MKII results, not measurements of the original MTM. Treble runs about 3dB hot on-axis; the rear -3dB treble switch overcorrects, and about -1.5dB of external EQ works better.

IK Multimedia iLoud MTM ranking card

Newer model: the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII, ranked higher, rated 4.2/5.

Pros: ASR’s measurements of the original MTM give scores of 4.07 standalone and 6.26 with an ideal subwoofer, a 2.4dB midrange response span and a -3dB point around 53Hz. The small cabinet, balanced input and calibration capability make it useful for close listening where larger monitors would be impractical. Measured bass extension of 50Hz (-3dB).

Cons: The MTM arrangement makes listening height and orientation important, while bass below the low-50Hz region still needs support. The native response is not as smooth as the best compact reference monitors. Exact compression ceilings and correction examples from the MKII review should not be assigned to this original version; its score describes tonal response, not maximum clean volume. Treble runs about 3dB hot on-axis; the reviewer found the rear -3dB switch too aggressive and preferred about -1.5dB of external EQ. Discontinued.
