Short answer: the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII. It ranks #22 of 100 powered bookshelf speakers by sound quality, rated 4.2/5, at $699.99; the Adam Audio A4V ranks #65, rated 3.6/5, and costs $1,079.98, so there is little reason to consider the other one.
The iLoud MTM MKII is the more accurate compact monitor. Two 3.5-inch woofers around a silk tweeter give a 2.2dB midrange span, a preference score of 5.22 and bass reaching 52.7Hz before falling 3dB, and its included microphone calibrates it to the room. Its treble runs about 3dB hot on-axis, and its vertical window is narrow, so mind ear height.
The A4V is a compact monitor with heavy DSP. Its folded-ribbon tweeter and 4-inch woofer reach about 59Hz before falling 3dB, with placement controls and room-correction support. Audio Science Review measured a 10.8dB swing from 300Hz to 5kHz, so its stock response is not neutral, and it has analog inputs only.
Buy the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Adam Audio A4V and costs less, so only choose the other one for a particular feature it does better.

Pros: Erin’s MKII measurements give a 2.2dB midrange span, a -3dB point around 53Hz, and preference scores of 5.22 standalone and 7.44 with an ideal subwoofer. The compact layout and included calibration microphone suit a close desktop setup. Existing tests show useful room-peak correction and good harmonic-distortion behavior at moderate levels. Measured bass extension of 52.7Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Some excess treble remains in the native tuning. The two-woofer MTM arrangement narrows the vertical listening window, so ear height and orientation matter. Multitone distortion rises strongly when pushed toward 96dB/1m; the review favors moderate listening levels, and a subwoofer does not eliminate all midrange output limits. These are MKII results, not measurements of the original MTM. Treble runs about 3dB hot on-axis; the rear -3dB treble switch overcorrects, and about -1.5dB of external EQ works better.

Pros: Compact monitor with onboard DSP, placement controls and room-correction integration. ASR’s Klippel data gives a -3dB point around 59Hz and preference scores of 3.92 standalone and 6.33 with an ideal subwoofer. Its adjustment facilities are useful when placement or tonal correction is needed.
Cons: A small average-deviation figure hides a major localized response irregularity: the selected measurement spans 10.8dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, and listening-window narrow-band deviation is 0.547. The native response should therefore not be called smoothly neutral. Correction potential is not the same as stock performance, and analog audio inputs mean a separate interface is needed for USB sources.
