Different classes, so treat this as a step-up-or-not question rather than a head-to-head. The Harman Kardon Citation 200 ranks #13 of 117 large speakers by sound quality at $130; the Sonos Roam ranks #94 of 178 medium speakers by sound quality at $169.99. The Sonos Roam is discontinued; its replacement is the Sonos Roam 2.
The case for the Harman Kardon Citation 200: A portable smart speaker with Wi-Fi, Google Assistant and deep bass for its size, now discontinued but worth buying used. Watch for: Overly boomy by default, you can short press the Bluetooth and volume down buttons simultaneously to decrease the bass, and the Bluetooth and volume up buttons simultaneously to increase it.
The Sonos Roam is the lighter pick. A small, waterproof Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker with wireless charging, voice control and Sonos multiroom support. At 0.9 lbs (429 g) it weighs much less than the Harman Kardon Citation 200 at 6.3 lbs (2.85 kg). It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Harman Kardon Citation 200 lacks. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Harman Kardon Citation 200 lacks. The catch: Bass extension isn’t very good.
One note: the Harman Kardon Citation 200 is discontinued, but it still ranks #13 of 117 large speakers by sound quality, ahead of most of what is still sold new, so it is worth considering used.
Buy the Harman Kardon Citation 200 at $130 for a large speaker, or the Sonos Roam at $169.99 for a medium speaker instead.
