Genelec W371A vs Magico Audio ASUB

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Short answer: the Genelec W371A. It ranks #121 of 143 subwoofers by sound quality, rated 3.9/5, at $10,795. The Magico Audio ASUB ranks #137, rated 3.6/5, at $9,000, $1,795 cheaper, not enough of a saving to outweigh the sound-quality gap.

Genelec W371A vs Magico Audio ASUB

What the Genelec W371A does well: A floor-standing woofer system that sits under the Genelec 8341A, Genelec 8351B or Genelec 8361A coaxial monitors to make a full-range speaker. Watch for: No independent measurements yet, so its output can’t be compared with ranked subwoofers.

Why pick the Magico Audio ASUB: Independent CEA-2010 testing records 94.3 dB at 20 Hz and 111.1 dB through 40-80 Hz. The tradeoff: Deep-bass output is more limited than the strong 40-80 Hz result suggests, so it is not the right choice when the lowest movie effects are the priority.

Buy the Genelec W371A. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $1,795 you would save on the Magico Audio ASUB does not close the gap.

Worth knowing: the Genelec W371A has not been measured yet. Its rating is estimated from related models, with a likely range of 3.7 to 4.1, so treat this verdict as provisional.

Pros: A floor-standing woofer system that sits under the Genelec 8341A, Genelec 8351B or Genelec 8361A coaxial monitors to make a full-range speaker. Front 14-inch (356mm) and rear 12-inch (305mm) woofers, each with 400W of Class D amplification, reach down to 23Hz at -6dB with 120dB short-term output, and three selectable modes steer bass directivity to suit the room. Analog XLR and AES/EBU inputs with GLM calibration.

Cons: No independent measurements yet, so its output can’t be compared with ranked subwoofers. It only works with Genelec’s The Ones monitors and is meant to be used in pairs, one under each speaker. Room calibration needs Genelec’s GLM kit or 9320A controller, sold separately.

Same family: the Magico A1 (bookshelf, estimated 4.2/5), the Magico A3 (smaller floorstanding, estimated 4.2/5), the Magico A5 (larger floorstanding, rated 4.3/5) and the Magico ACC (center, estimated 4.2/5).

Pros: Independent CEA-2010 testing records 94.3 dB at 20 Hz and 111.1 dB through 40-80 Hz. The sealed enclosure with 10” (254mm) driver delivers substantial upper-bass output for movie effects and music.

Cons: Deep-bass output is more limited than the strong 40-80 Hz result suggests, so it is not the right choice when the lowest movie effects are the priority. The 457.2H x 368.3W x 447.0D mm cabinet and 49.0 kg mass still require deliberate placement and calibration.
