Genelec 8350A vs Buchardt A200

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Short answer: the Genelec 8350A for better sound quality, the Buchardt A200 for the lower price. The Genelec 8350A ranks #25 of 118 powered bookshelf speakers, rated 4.5/5, at $5,550. The Buchardt A200 ranks #52, rated 4.4/5, at $2,750, $2,800 cheaper.

Genelec 8350A vs Buchardt A200

The case for the Genelec 8350A: An 8” woofer and 1” metal dome tweeter behind Genelec’s Directivity Control Waveguide, specified at ±1.5dB from 38Hz to 20kHz and down to 33Hz at -6dB, deep enough for most music without a subwoofer. The catch: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers.

What the Buchardt A200 does well: An active DSP speaker from the maker of the Buchardt A10 and Buchardt A500, with a 0.75” aluminum dome tweeter in a waveguide and two 5” long-stroke woofers driven by 200W per speaker. The catch: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers.

Buy the Genelec 8350A if sound quality is the priority over the price, or the Buchardt A200 if the price is the priority over sound quality.

About the ratings: neither speaker has been measured yet, so both ratings are estimated from measured siblings and predecessors (likely ranges: Genelec 8350A 4.3 to 4.7; Buchardt A200 4.1 to 4.7). Treat this verdict as provisional.

Older model: the Genelec 8050B (ranked lower, rated 4.4/5). See every Genelec 8000 and 8300 Series generation.

Same family: the Genelec 8320A (smaller bookshelf, rated 4.5/5), the Genelec 8330A (smaller bookshelf, rated 4.5/5) and the Genelec 8340A (smaller bookshelf, ranked lower, estimated 4.4/5).

Pros: An 8” woofer and 1” metal dome tweeter behind Genelec’s Directivity Control Waveguide, specified at ±1.5dB from 38Hz to 20kHz and down to 33Hz at -6dB, deep enough for most music without a subwoofer. GLM software measures your room and sets level, delay and EQ for each speaker automatically. 350W of amplification per speaker gives 112dB short-term output, with analog XLR and AES/EBU digital inputs.

Cons: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers. At 12.8kg and 452mm tall it needs solid stands, GLM calibration needs the separately sold GLM kit, and there is no RCA input for consumer gear.

Buchardt A200 ranking card

Same family: the Buchardt A10 (larger bookshelf, ranked higher, rated 4.7/5), the Buchardt A500 (larger bookshelf, ranked higher, rated 4.6/5) and the Buchardt A700 (floorstanding, rated 4.5/5).

Pros: An active DSP speaker from the maker of the Buchardt A10 and Buchardt A500, with a 0.75” aluminum dome tweeter in a waveguide and two 5” long-stroke woofers driven by 200W per speaker. Buchardt rates it from 25Hz (±1.5dB), and a cardioid mode reduces rear wall reflections.

Cons: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers. It has no Bluetooth; wireless playback needs Buchardt’s WiSA hub, and wired inputs are XLR or RCA only.
