Genelec 1032C vs Buchardt A200

What the Genelec 1032C does well: A 10” woofer and 1” metal dome tweeter in a Directivity Control Waveguide, specified down to 33Hz at -6dB and 114dB short-term output, so it plays loud and deep without a subwoofer. The tradeoff: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers.

What the Buchardt A200 does well: An active DSP speaker from the maker of the Buchardt A10 and Buchardt A500, with a 0.75” aluminum dome tweeter in a waveguide and two 5” long-stroke woofers driven by 200W per speaker. Watch for: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers.

Buy the Genelec 1032C if sound quality matters more than the price. Buy the Buchardt A200 if the price matters more than sound quality.

About the ratings: neither speaker has been measured yet, so both ratings are estimated from measured siblings and predecessors (likely ranges: Genelec 1032C 4.3 to 4.7; Buchardt A200 4.1 to 4.7). Treat this verdict as provisional.

Older models: the Genelec 1032B (ranked lower, estimated 4.4/5) and the Genelec 1032A (ranked lower, rated 4.4/5). See every Genelec 1032 generation.

Pros: A 10” woofer and 1” metal dome tweeter in a Directivity Control Waveguide, specified down to 33Hz at -6dB and 114dB short-term output, so it plays loud and deep without a subwoofer. GLM software measures your room and sets level, delay and EQ for each speaker automatically. 400W of amplification per speaker, with analog XLR and AES/EBU digital inputs.

Cons: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers. Its specified ±2.5dB window (40Hz to 20kHz) is looser than the ±1.5dB of Genelec’s 8300 series. At 17kg in a large MDF box it needs sturdy stands, GLM calibration needs the separately sold GLM kit, and there is no RCA input.

Same family: the Buchardt A10 (larger bookshelf, ranked higher, rated 4.7/5), the Buchardt A500 (larger bookshelf, ranked higher, rated 4.6/5) and the Buchardt A700 (floorstanding, rated 4.5/5).

Pros: An active DSP speaker from the maker of the Buchardt A10 and Buchardt A500, with a 0.75” aluminum dome tweeter in a waveguide and two 5” long-stroke woofers driven by 200W per speaker. Buchardt rates it from 25Hz (±1.5dB), and a cardioid mode reduces rear wall reflections.

Cons: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers. It has no Bluetooth; wireless playback needs Buchardt’s WiSA hub, and wired inputs are XLR or RCA only.
