Short answer: the 8020D, if the price gap doesn’t matter. It ranks #11 of 65 powered bookshelf speakers at $695; the iLoud MTM ranks #21 at $800, $105 less.
The 8020D’s measurements are unusually well documented in our notes. Klippel-based spinorama data shows a flat, well-behaved on-axis response from about 60Hz to 10kHz, with tight horizontal directivity out to roughly ±30 degrees. Its real limitation is a small 4.1-inch woofer and tweeter pair that begins to beam above 500Hz to 1kHz, narrowing off-axis output.
The iLoud MTM answers with a genuinely effective auto-room-correction microphone, which our notes say resolved specific room resonance peaks in testing, at the cost of being SPL-limited: bass falls off sharply below its 51Hz F3 point.
Buy the 8020D for the stronger raw measurements if budget allows. Buy the iLoud MTM for automated room correction at a meaningfully lower price.

Pros: A compact waveguided monitor with balanced XLR input and placement filters, well suited to a small studio desk. Measured bass extension of 56Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Small size limits deep-bass reach and headroom. It lacks the GLM calibration of the SAM models, and the price is substantial for a compact analog-input monitor.

IK Multimedia iLoud MTM: $800 per pair Discontinued Amazon eBay
Pros: ASR’s measurements of the original MTM give scores of 4.07 standalone and 6.26 with an ideal subwoofer, a 2.4dB midrange response span and a -3dB point around 53Hz. The small cabinet, balanced input and calibration capability make it useful for close listening where larger monitors would be impractical. Measured bass extension of 50Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The MTM arrangement makes listening height and orientation important, while bass below the low-50Hz region still needs support. The native response is not as smooth as the best compact reference monitors. Exact compression ceilings and correction examples from the MKII review should not be assigned to this original version; its score describes tonal response, not maximum clean volume. Discontinued.
