Short answer: the Focal Alpha 65 EVO if sound quality matters most, the Kali Audio LP-8 if price matters most. The Alpha 65 EVO ranks #51 of 68 large powered bookshelf speakers against the LP-8’s #56, at $400 more.
The Focal has real measured data behind it. ASR measured 42.5Hz at -3dB extension, giving it useful low-end reach for music straight out of the box, and it scores a 6.59 ideal-subwoofer preference rating, respectable if not leading tonality. Analog inputs and tone controls make it easy to drop into a small studio. Its own notes admit a 2.7dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz that keeps it from being reference-flat, and the review notes an anomalous distortion result on an individual sample that shouldn’t be assumed to affect every unit.
The Kali LP-8’s own notes point toward its replacement. They flag that a newer V2 is now out and could measure better, and that the similarly priced Kali Eris 8 beats this original LP-8 by a bit. What it still offers is a larger 8” woofer and a waveguide with placement switches for affordable nearfield monitoring, plus more rated output at 100W per speaker against the Focal’s 85W. The tradeoffs are first-generation amplifier noise that can be distracting at a quiet desk, and cabinets large enough to need real space, where the placement switches don’t substitute for actual room correction.
Buy the Focal Alpha 65 EVO for the better-documented, more neutral measured performance if the higher price fits your budget.
Buy the Kali Audio LP-8 if budget is tighter, though it’s worth also looking at the newer LP-8 V2 or the Kali Eris 8 before settling on this original model.

Pros: The original LP-8 offers a large woofer, a waveguide and placement switches for affordable nearfield monitoring.
