Short answer: the Sonos Play. It ranks #56 of 179 medium speakers by sound quality, rated 3.5/5, at $299. The ELAC Nava100 ranks #87, rated 3.3/5, at $199.99, $99.01 cheaper, not enough of a saving to outweigh the sound-quality gap.
Why pick the ELAC Nava100: A small hi-fi brand portable with a 3 inch full range driver and two passive radiators. Watch for: Alan Ross measured the JBL Charge 6 over 5 dB louder at full volume, with far more bass above half volume.
The Sonos Play is the longer-running, tougher pick. A Wi-Fi and Bluetooth portable with wide stereo sound, a long lasting swappable battery, waterproofing and full Sonos multiroom support. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 15 for the ELAC Nava100. It is rated IP67, while the ELAC Nava100 has no water resistance. It keeps a wired aux input, which the ELAC Nava100 lacks. Watch for: Bass distorts noticeably on bass-heavy tracks at default settings, and the distortion persists even after enabling Trueplay tuning and manually pulling bass back in the app.
Buy the Sonos Play. It is rated higher for sound quality, and saving $99.01 with the ELAC Nava100 does not make up for the sound-quality gap.
