The Woburn III’s higher price buys real hardware, not necessarily better sound. It runs 150W total against the D12’s 70W, reaches deeper into the bass at -10dB (around 45Hz versus 57Hz for the D12), and adds an HDMI input plus a companion app, both of which the D12 lacks entirely. But our notes on the Woburn III are blunt: it sounds hollow with peaky upper mids, and its bass is not as deep as others in its class despite the extension numbers. The D12 has no such complaints on record, and its own pros call out a subwoofer line out for anyone who wants to add low end separately.
What the Woburn III adds:
- An HDMI input, letting it connect directly to a TV or computer, something the D12 cannot do.
- App control, for EQ and settings from a phone.
- More rated power, at roughly double the D12’s output.

Buy the Marshall Woburn III if you specifically need the HDMI input or app control and can live with a sound our notes describe as hollow and peaky rather than clean.
