EcoXGear EcoBoulder+ vs Turtlebox Gen 3

Last updated: October 19, 2026

Short answer: the EcoXGear EcoBoulder+, though neither ranks well in its class. It ranks #96 of 111 boombox speakers by sound quality, rated 2.3/5, at $199.99; the Turtlebox Gen 3 ranks #103, rated 2.1/5, and costs $430, which makes this an easy call rather than a real tradeoff. Both are rated below 3.0/5 among the 111 boombox speakers, and the Tribit Stormbox Blast, ranked #2 at $179.99, is a better place to start if sound quality matters.

EcoXGear EcoBoulder+ vs Turtlebox Gen 3

The EcoXGear EcoBoulder+ is the longer-running pick. Owners and reviewers describe it as loud with punchy bass at a tailgate, and it plays up to 50 hours at moderate volume (about 10 at full) from a user replaceable sealed lead acid battery. It is rated for 50 hours of battery against 25 for the Turtlebox Gen 3. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Turtlebox Gen 3 lacks. The catch: Its bass is nowhere near as deep as top ranked boomboxes like the Tribit Stormbox Blast and Harman Kardon Go + Play 3, which reach down to about 43 Hz and 35 Hz.

The Turtlebox Gen 3 is the lighter option. Waterproof (IP67, and it floats) and crushproof, with stainless steel hardware and quality amplifier parts inside. At 10 lbs (4.54 kg) it weighs much less than the EcoXGear EcoBoulder+ at 29.1 lbs (13.2 kg). It links with other speakers (Turtlebox Party Mode), which the EcoXGear EcoBoulder+ cannot. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the EcoXGear EcoBoulder+. Watch for: Sounds basically identical to the original and the Turtlebox Gen 2: each generation mainly added features, not sound quality.

Buy the EcoXGear EcoBoulder+. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Turtlebox Gen 3 and costs less, which makes it the one to get unless you need something the other one does better.
