Short answer: the Creative Pebble Pro. It ranks #31 of 47 powered bookshelf speakers by sound quality, rated 3.1/5, at $59.99; the Mackie CR3-X ranks #33, rated 3.0/5, and costs $99.99, which makes this an easy call rather than a real tradeoff.
What the Creative Pebble Pro does well: The premium illuminated model in the Pebble series, featuring redesigned 2.25-inch full-range drivers with BassFlex digital acoustic processing and RGB lighting around each base. The catch: No standardized laboratory NFS measurements have been published.
Why pick the Mackie CR3-X: Erin’s Klippel data predicts 2.50 standalone and 5.42 with an ideal subwoofer. The catch: The response spans 4.4dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, with substantial narrow-band irregularities and bass rolloff reaching -3dB around 75Hz.
Buy the Creative Pebble Pro. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Mackie CR3-X and costs less, so it is the default pick unless a specific strength of the other one matters more to you.
About the ratings: the Creative Pebble Pro’s rating is estimated from measured siblings and predecessors rather than its own measurements, with a likely range of 2.9 to 3.3, so this verdict could change once it is measured.

Mackie CR3-X: $99.99 per pair Amazon eBay
Newer model: the Mackie CR3.5, ranked lower, estimated 3/5, released Oct 2024. See every Mackie CR generation.
Same family: the Mackie CR4-X (larger bookshelf, ranked higher, estimated 3.3/5).
Pros: Erin’s Klippel data predicts 2.50 standalone and 5.42 with an ideal subwoofer. The existing comparative review found less exaggerated tonal shaping and better sustained-output behavior than the original PreSonus Eris E3.5 tested alongside it. Midrange distortion was reasonably controlled for inexpensive desktop speakers at moderate listening levels. Measured bass extension of 80Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 96dB.
Cons: The response spans 4.4dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, with substantial narrow-band irregularities and bass rolloff reaching -3dB around 75Hz. Bass peaking and crossover-region changes with listening height prevent neutral monitoring. Limiting becomes intrusive above modest desktop levels, and there are no tone controls. Comparisons with the original PreSonus Eris E3.5 should not be treated as measurements of its second generation.
