The case for the Bose Soundlink Mini: A compact speaker with a sturdy, dense aluminum build and an included charging cradle. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Minirig Mini 2. Watch for: Boosted upper bass like most Bose speakers.
The Minirig Mini 2 is the longer-running, lighter option. A tiny, very neutral speaker with much deeper bass than most its size, a long battery, and an optional add on subwoofer. It is rated for 12 hours of battery against 7 for the Bose Soundlink Mini. At 0.7 lbs (320 g) it weighs much less than the Bose Soundlink Mini at 1.5 lbs (680 g). It is rated Splash resistant, while the Bose Soundlink Mini has no water resistance. Watch for: Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating.
One note: the Bose Soundlink Mini is no longer sold new, but at #70 of 179 medium speakers by sound quality it still outranks most current models, so used is worth considering.
Buy the Bose Soundlink Mini ($125) for a medium speaker; the Minirig Mini 2 ($100) suits a small speaker instead.
