Bose Soundlink Flex vs JBL Charge 3

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Short answer: the Bose Soundlink Flex. It ranks #38 of 175 medium speakers by sound quality (rated 3.8/5) at $159 and is still sold new; the JBL Charge 3 ranks #91 (rated 3.2/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used. The JBL Charge 3’s replacement, the JBL Charge 6, is rated 4.2/5 at $119.95.

Bose Soundlink Flex vs JBL Charge 3

The Bose Soundlink Flex is the better-sounding, deeper-bass pick. IP67 rated; rugged enough to survive drops from several feet and floats. Its bass reaches about 56Hz before falling 10dB, against 63Hz for the JBL Charge 3. At 1.3 lbs (589 g) it weighs noticeably less than the JBL Charge 3 at 1.8 lbs (800 g). It charges over USB-C rather than Micro USB. The catch: Warm sounding with overly boosted bass which drowns out midrange detail.

The JBL Charge 3 is the louder, longer-running option. Doubles as a 6000mAh power bank for USB devices. ~20 hour battery life. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 100dB at full volume, against 96dB for the Bose Soundlink Flex. It is rated for 20 hours of battery against 12 for the Bose Soundlink Flex. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Bose Soundlink Flex lacks. The tradeoff: Less clarity than the JBL Flip 4.

Buy the Bose Soundlink Flex. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the JBL Charge 3 is discontinued.
