Short answer: the Xiaomi Sound Party if sound quality matters most, the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen if price matters most. The Sound Party ranks #20 of 164 medium portable speakers against the Flex’s #37, at $16.01 more.
The two speakers land on opposite sides of neutral. The Flex 2nd gen’s notes describe it as pretty much identical sounding to the original Flex: warm, with overly boosted bass that drowns out midrange detail, and it isn’t stereo. The Sound Party’s notes call it pretty balanced overall and more neutral than the JBL Charge 5, and specifically say it plays clean out of the box, unlike the JBL Charge 6’s default tuning which has noticeable mid distortion. Its own flaws are a slightly thuddy bass at high volume with a 180Hz peak, and the notes admit it can’t match the Soundcore Boom 2 on raw bass output and loudness.
Battery life and drivers diverge sharply too. The Sound Party is rated for 26 hours against the Flex’s 12, and its rated bass extension reaches 54Hz from a two-woofer, two-tweeter layout, against the Flex’s single 60mm full-range driver with passive radiators. The Flex counters with broader codec support, SBC, AAC, and aptX Adaptive, where the Sound Party is SBC only.
Buy the Xiaomi Sound Party. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen and costs less, so it is the default pick unless a specific strength of the other one matters more to you.

Pros: A very portable 586g, IP67-rated speaker with a clear, well-balanced midrange that keeps voices and instruments intelligible. The second generation adds a Bose app with 3-band EQ, better-placed controls and stereo pairing with another Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen. It supports AAC and aptX Adaptive in addition to SBC, making it a stronger wireless option than most small rivals.
Cons: One Flex remains mono and cannot deliver genuine low-bass rumble; RTINGS also found the elevated treble can turn hi-hats and other high-frequency detail piercing. The claimed battery life is only 12 hours, and some owners report accelerated standby drain after firmware updates. It is expensive for its size, so the added app and codec support, not a transformational sound upgrade over the original, are the main reasons to choose it.

Xiaomi Sound Party: $142.99 Amazon eBay
Pros: An unusually versatile 1.2kg outdoor speaker: IP67 dust/water protection, USB-C power-bank output, NFC pairing, lights, stereo pairing and a claimed 26-hour battery life. Several independent reviews describe a warm, generally balanced sound with clear vocals and useful bass impact when Bass Boost is off. It is also easy to carry thanks to the retractable handle. Measured bass extension of 54Hz (-10dB).
Cons: The sound evidence is mixed rather than universally glowing. One lab review found it loud but flat and unclean with blurred treble, while others hear the Bass Boost mode as boomy upper bass that can bottom out at high volume. It is not the strongest choice for a large party: tested output is around 94dB and rivals such as the Soundcore Boom 2 play louder with deeper bass. SBC is the only Bluetooth codec and there is no aux input.
