#55 M-Audio BX8 D3: $129 each B&H Photo Video eBay

Pros: A powerful 150W bi-amplified 8-inch monitor at a budget price, with balanced XLR/TRS inputs and an Acoustic Space control. ASR measured useful in-room extension to 42Hz and broad horizontal coverage to about +/-60 degrees.

Cons: Its -0.43dB-per-octave downward tilt is audibly dark, while on-axis smoothness of 0.216 and directivity-index consistency of 3.93 are only middling. The rear port and large cabinet demand more desk and wall clearance than smaller monitors.

How it compares: Just above it: Edifier R2850DB - $296 more. Just below it: Klipsch The Sevens - $871 more.
