#19 KEF Reference 4c: $7,500 each Discontinued eBay
Newer model: the KEF Reference 4 Meta, ranked higher, rated 4.4/5.
Pros: KEF’s previous flagship center: a Uni-Q coaxial driver (1” aluminum tweeter inside a 5” midrange) between four 6.5” bass drivers. Audio Science Review measured very low on-axis deviation (0.21) and bass to 67.4Hz (-3dB) and about 30Hz (-10dB), for a preference score of 5.79 without a subwoofer, one of the highest of any center ranked here. Measured bass extension of 67.4Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Directivity varies more across frequency than most centers here (3.77dB directivity index deviation), so room reflections sound slightly different from the direct sound. It is 1090mm wide and 45.2kg. KEF replaced it with the Reference 4 Meta. Discontinued.
How it compares: Just above it: Monolith THX-365C - $7000 cheaper, 0.5Hz lower bass extension (-3dB). Just below it: Revel C426Be - $2055 cheaper.
