#13 JBL SCS 8: $1,600 per pair B&H Photo Video $800.00 eBay
Pros: A cinema surround from JBL Professional with an 8” Kevlar reinforced woofer and a coaxial 1” compression driver, wide 120 by 120 degree coverage and 250W power handling, so one can fill a large room’s side or rear wall. Erin’s Audio Corner measured 89.8dB sensitivity, so ordinary receivers drive it loud, and bass holds to 88Hz (-3dB). Measured bass extension of 87.9Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 89.8dB.
Cons: Erin’s Audio Corner measured a very uneven on-axis response (1.81 average deviation) and a listening window that swings 6.8dB between 300Hz and 5kHz, for a preference score of -1.84 (1.29 with an ideal subwoofer), so it sounds colored next to home theater surrounds. It weighs 8.2 kg, hangs on a U bracket and is priced per speaker.
