JBL L100 Classic - ranked #112 of 188 Large Size Bookshelf Speakers · Editor's rating 3.7/5

#112 JBL L100 Classic: $4,000 per pair Discontinued Estimated eBay

Newer model: the JBL L100 Classic MKII, ranked higher, rated 3.9/5.

Pros: A large three-way bookshelf speaker with a 12” pulp cone woofer, a 5.25” polymer-coated midrange, a 1” titanium dome tweeter and front panel level controls for the midrange and treble. Sensitivity is 90dB. Audioholics’ measurements above 200Hz show a fairly even listening window.

Cons: Those measurements stop at 200Hz, so it has no preference score; the rating is estimated from that data and its measured successor, the L100 Classic MkII. The load is 4 ohms, and at 26.7kg each it needs sturdy, low stands. Discontinued.

Related speakers: JBL L100 Classic MKII.

How it compares: Just above it: Ascend Acoustics Sierra 2 - $500 cheaper, 3.6Hz lower bass extension (-3dB). Just below it: Pioneer S-DF3-K - $1825 cheaper, 1Hz lower bass extension (-3dB).
