#96 Ascend Acoustics Sierra 2: $1,500 per pair Discontinued eBay
Newer model: the Ascend Acoustics Sierra-2EX V2, ranked higher, rated 4.3/5.
Pros: A two-way standmount with a ribbon tweeter and a woven cone woofer. Audio Science Review measured a fairly even on-axis response (0.58 deviation), a smooth predicted in-room response (0.70) and wide horizontal coverage of about ±65 degrees, for a preference score of 4.22 that rises to 6.56 with an ideal subwoofer. Measured bass extension of 45.8Hz (-10dB), with a measured sensitivity of 86.4dB.
Cons: Bass rolls off early for its size, at 56.4Hz (-6dB) and about 45.8Hz (-10dB), so it benefits from a subwoofer. The vertical listening window is narrow at about ±20 degrees, so keep the tweeter near ear height. Replaced by the Sierra-2EX V2. Discontinued.
How it compares: Just above it: Klipsch RP-600M II - $1050 cheaper, 0.4Hz lower bass extension (-3dB). Just below it: Aoshida Audio Musician Knight I V2 - $599 more, 2.3Hz higher bass extension (-3dB).
