#524 Hidizs MS3: $119.99 Amazon $119.99 eBay
Pros: Eight hobbyist measurements give it a preference score of 69 with a lively V-shaped tuning that suits fans of punchy bass and crisp detail. Bass from 60 to 200 Hz runs about 2.5 dB above target and the midrange stays within about 1 dB, so vocals stay clear. Its 18 ohm impedance and 112 dB sensitivity make it very easy to drive from any phone. It matches the rating of the pricier FiiO FD15.
Cons: A 10.1 dB peak near 8 kHz and air about 5 dB above target make cymbals, hi hats and sibilance hot, which can tire the ears at higher volume. Sub-bass dips about 1.7 dB under 60 Hz, so the deepest rumble is a little lighter than the upper bass.
