Zealot ZE51 vs JBL Boombox 4

Last updated: August 29, 2026

Short answer: the Zealot ZE51. It ranks #14 of 74 boombox speakers by sound quality at $296.39; the JBL Boombox 4 ranks #18 and costs $549.95, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.

What the Zealot ZE51 gets right: Cleaner sound and a wider stereo soundstage than the Zealot ZE41, with less distortion at high volume for better instrumental detail and clarity. The catch: The Zealot ZE41 still wins on raw bass depth and price. Large and heavy like the rest of the boombox class, and clarity still isn’t up to dedicated hi-fi speakers.

On the JBL Boombox 4 side: Pretty insane output capability for the size. Watch for: Pretty overpriced for the category. Better than the Boombox 3 mostly because there are more 7 EQ bands instead of just 3 and it can be better tuned. Try Oluv’s EQ for it.

Buy the Zealot ZE51. It ranks higher for sound quality than the JBL Boombox 4 and costs less, which settles it without a real tradeoff to make.

There is a real gap in water resistance: the JBL Boombox 4 at IP68 (extended submersion) against the Zealot ZE51, which has IPX5 (water jets).
