These share the same core sound signature and the same weaknesses. Our notes describe both as a little rolled off up top and not that balanced through the rest of the range, with clarity that isn’t as good as better speakers and a bass EQ that comes across bloated and muddy on both units. The ZE41 is simply the bigger version of the same formula: our notes call it the absolute best value for bass performance, play time, and max volume in the boombox class, edging out the S89’s own great value in the same categories. Cons: At high volume, listener reports describe the bass as loose or muddy and the overall balance as less clear than better boombox speakers.
