Short answer: the Harman Kardon Go + Play 3 is the more rewarding music speaker, while the Turtlebox Gen 3 is for hard-use outdoor listening where waterproofing comes first. Turtlebox is 71 of 76; Harman Kardon is 3 of 76.
The Turtlebox combines IP67 protection, a durable body, USB-C charging and power sharing, long battery life, and multi-speaker Party Mode. Its sound remains close to prior Turtlebox generations, however, and its bass performance and loudness claims deserve skepticism.
The Go + Play 3 has a warmer, more natural presentation with exceptionally deep bass for its size. It is only about half as loud as stronger boomboxes, lasts roughly eight hours at medium volume, and has no water rating.

Turtlebox Gen 3: $430.00 Amazon eBay
Older models: the Turtlebox Gen 2 (rated 2.1/5) and the Turtlebox (rated 2.1/5).
Pros: Waterproof and crushproof, loud with punchy bass. 25+ hour battery life. USB-C charging and USB-C output charges other devices. True multi-speaker Party Mode added on top of stereo pairing, plus Bluetooth 5.4. Measured bass extension of ~65Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Sounds basically identical to the original and the Gen 2: each generation mainly added features, not sound quality. They pretty much lie about all their specs and sound horrible in all youtube sound samples. Will never hit its claimed 120db at a reasonable measuring distance. Putting your db meter right against the speaker doesn’t count, 1 meter distance is the standard. Barely any bass. Rattles at high volume. Looking at it, it appears to be a generic car 2-way 6x9 speaker in a plastic box.

Harman Kardon Go + Play 3: $385 Amazon eBay
Older model: the Harman Kardon Go + Play 2 (rated 3.9/5).
Pros: Warm sound with boosted bass. Deepest bass out of any speaker in this size. Sound is more natural than the Go + Play2. An aux input, a built-in microphone, a power bank function, stereo pairing and hidden button combinations for adjusting bass and treble. Measured bass extension of 35Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Just a little over half as loud as the higher rated boomboxes. Only 8 hours of battery at medium volume. No water rating.
Setup: Use the hidden EQ modes to adjust the bass up when outside and down when inside. To adjust bass, quickly press the bluetooth and volume down buttons together, the number of light flashes tell you what mode you’re in. To adjust treble, quickly press the volume up and phone buttons at the same time, the number of yellow flashes on the light tell you what mode you are in.
