The Tribit Stormbox Micro is the better-sounding choice. Quite neutral. Watch for: Gets murky and slightly sharp near max volume; boosted bass distorts when pushed loud.
The Tribit PocketGo is the longer-running, lighter pick. Fuller low end than the JBL Go 5, despite the JBL’s clearer, more typical JBL sound. Tribit Stormbox Micro: $40 Discontinued eBay
Newer model: the Tribit Stormbox Micro 3, ranked lower, rated 4.2/5, released Apr 2026. See every Tribit Stormbox generation.
Pros: Quite neutral. Slight hollowness in the mids. Built in strap is super useful for attaching it to things. Highly recommend spending a little more on the Micro 2 which goes louder and deeper. To have it aimed directly at you unclip the strap and the speaker will sit upright with a slight lean back. Measured bass extension of 62Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Gets murky and slightly sharp near max volume; boosted bass distorts when pushed loud. Down-firing passive radiator needs a flat surface underneath or the bass gets muffled. Discontinued and no longer sold new; superseded by the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2.

Pros: Fuller low end than the JBL Go 5, despite the JBL’s clearer, more typical JBL sound. Costs about half the price of the JBL Go 5. Can stand, hang from its loop, or lay flat on its feet for flexible placement. About on par with the Soundcore Select 4 Go, and a touch louder at lower volumes. App support with signature EQ and customization.
Cons: Battery life isn’t the biggest for this speaker class. JBL Go 5 has better build quality plus lightshow, Auracast, and AirTouch. Loses more bass than the Soundcore Select 4 Go at maximum volume. Slightly nasal quality to the sound.
