Tribit Stormbox Blast vs W-King X20S

The Stormbox Blast is the proven one. It is quite neutral, reaches about 43Hz and measured about 108dB, and it improves further with the Oluv EQ linked on its page.

The X20S is clear with plenty of bass for its size, but its bass is cut off on a flat EQ and its mids and highs dominate at max volume. Its rating comes from listening comparisons, not measurements.

Features: the Blast claims 30 hours with IPX7 and lights. The X20S is IPX7 with FM radio, TF and USB playback, a built-in microphone and a shoulder strap.

Buy the Tribit Stormbox Blast. It is rated higher for sound quality, and saving $29 with the W-King X20S does not make up for the sound-quality gap.

Newer model: the Tribit Stormbox Blast 2, ranked lower, rated 3.8/5.

Pros: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off. Measured bass extension of 43Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5kHz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.

Pros: Clearer and smoother than the larger W-King X20 at about half its size and weight, and in side by side tests it held its own against the Harman Kardon Go + Play 3, with nicer, more exposed mids and more volume. 140W RMS (180W peak), IPX7, Bluetooth 5.4, a built-in microphone, TF card, USB and aux playback, FM radio, a carry handle and a shoulder strap.

Cons: Less bass and depth than the X20 and about 3dB quieter, and at maximum volume its mids and highs start to drown out the bass. With a flat EQ the bass is cut off, so it needs the bass boost. The JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 sounded better in a direct comparison. The evidence is listening comparisons, not measurements. Sold direct from W-King in the US.
