Tribit Stormbox Blast vs Blast 2 (August 2026)

Short answer: the original Blast, comfortably. It ranks #2 out of 68 boombox speakers at $180. The Blast 2 ranks #21 at $300.

The sequel is louder and reaches slightly deeper, and neither helps. The Blast 2 measures 40 Hz against 43 Hz and hits 110 dB against 108 dB, with 200 W on AC against 90 W RMS. On paper it is the bigger speaker. In practice it sounds quite muddy, with boosted lower and upper bass and a treble lift around 6 kHz. Its XBass mode makes the muddiness worse rather than better. Our notes put it as nowhere near as neutral or balanced as the original.

The original is the better-engineered product. It is quite neutral in default and XBass modes, and very good with a reviewer EQ — Oluv’s preset became the factory default in firmware 3.5, which is an unusually direct endorsement. Its weaknesses are a dip at 5.5 kHz and slightly less detail than the best speakers in other size classes.

It is also 3.25 kg lighter — 5.45 kg against 8.7 kg. In a class whose entire premise is “a party speaker you can actually carry”, that is not a footnote.

What the Blast 2 wins: IP67 dust-and-water against IPX7 water-only, and more raw output for a large outdoor space. Battery is 30 hours on both.

Buy the original Blast. It costs $120 less, weighs a third less, and measures far better. If you genuinely need more output than it provides, the answer is a party-size speaker, not the Blast 2.

Tribit Stormbox Blast: $179.99 Amazon

Pros: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off.

Cons: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5khz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.

Pros: Pretty deep bass.

Cons: Sounds quite muddy with the boosted lower and upper bass. Boosted treble around 6khz. Xbass mode makes it sound even more muddy. Nowhere near as neutral and balanced as the first Blast and a big downgrade unless you only care about max volume
