Short answer: the Tribit Stormbox Blast. It ranks #2 of 98 boombox speakers by sound quality (rated 4.5/5) at $179.99 and is still sold new; the Soundcore Motion Boom+ ranks #68 (rated 2.9/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used. The Soundcore Motion Boom+’s replacement, the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus, is rated 3.6/5 at $179.99.

Tribit Stormbox Blast vs Soundcore Motion Boom+

The Tribit Stormbox Blast is the better-sounding, deeper-bass pick. Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a JBL Partybox 100. Its bass reaches about 43Hz before falling 10dB, against 52Hz for the Soundcore Motion Boom+. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 20 for the Soundcore Motion Boom+. The tradeoff: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5kHz.

The Soundcore Motion Boom+ is the lighter pick. 80W stereo from dual 30W woofers + dual 10W tweeters with titanium drivers for treble clarity. At 5.3 lbs (2.4 kg) it weighs much less than the Tribit Stormbox Blast at 12 lbs (5.45 kg). It links with other speakers (PartyCast up to 100 speakers), which the Tribit Stormbox Blast cannot. Same family: the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 (smaller model, rated 4.5/5), the Tribit Stormbox Flow (smaller model, rated 3.5/5) and the Tribit Stormbox Pro (smaller model, rated 3.7/5).

Pros: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a JBL Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off. Measured bass extension of 43Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5kHz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.

Pros: 80W stereo from dual 30W woofers + dual 10W tweeters with titanium drivers for treble clarity. 13,400mAh battery for 20 hours (12-15 at high volume). IP67 waterproof, floats, rugged build inspires confidence. Bluetooth 5.3 multipoint pairing, Soundcore app EQ, PartyCast 2.0 mode. USB-C input, USB-A output for powerbank. Measured bass extension of 52Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Default presets are all warm sounding with rolled off treble. Will need a custom EQ to get closer to neutral. A shrill sounding 6kHz peak comes out when volume is above about 60%. Not much deeper bass than a Soundcore Motion Boom and a lot less deep bass than other speakers in the class. Discontinued.
