The JBL Boombox’s replacement, the JBL Boombox 4, is rated 4.0/5 at $549.95.
The Tribit Stormbox Blast 2 is the better-sounding, tougher pick. Pretty deep bass. It is rated IP67 against IPX5 for the JBL Boombox. It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the JBL Boombox lacks. It has a microphone input for karaoke or announcements, which the JBL Boombox lacks. The tradeoff: Sounds quite muddy with the boosted lower and upper bass.
The JBL Boombox is the lighter option. Claimed 24 hours (manufacturer specified) battery life, ipx5 protection and stereo playback make its feature set practical for its intended room or portable use. At 11.5 lbs (5.2 kg) it weighs much less than the Tribit Stormbox Blast 2 at 19.2 lbs (8.7 kg). It links with other speakers (Connect+ up to 100 speakers), which the Tribit Stormbox Blast 2 cannot. The catch: Treble is not very smooth.
Buy the Tribit Stormbox Blast 2. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the JBL Boombox is discontinued.

Pros: Pretty deep bass. Measured bass extension of 40Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Sounds quite muddy with the boosted lower and upper bass. Boosted treble around 6kHz. Xbass mode makes it sound even more muddy. Nowhere near as neutral and balanced as the first Blast and a big downgrade unless you only care about max volume
