Short answer: both are discontinued, so this only matters if you are buying used. Used, the Tribit Maxsound Plus is the better pick: it ranks #22 of 157 medium speakers by sound quality (rated 4.1/5), against #74 (rated 3.3/5) for the JBL Flip 5. If you want one new, the Earfun Uboom L ranks #1 at $49.79.

The Tribit Maxsound Plus is the better-sounding, louder choice. Use XBass mode for flattest frequency response and balanced audio reproduction. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 99dB at full volume, against 92dB for the JBL Flip 5. It is rated for 20 hours of battery against 12 for the JBL Flip 5. It keeps a wired aux input, which the JBL Flip 5 lacks. The tradeoff: Slightly less deep bass than modern class leaders.
The case for the JBL Flip 5: Compact and light (1.1 lb) with a carry lanyard. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Tribit Maxsound Plus lacks. It charges over USB-C rather than Micro USB. The catch: Boosted upper bass.
Buy the Tribit Maxsound Plus only if you find one used in good condition; both are discontinued, and it is the better rated of the two. For a new speaker, start with the Earfun Uboom L instead.
