Short answer: the SVS SB-3000, if you are buying new. The PSB Speakers SubSeries 450 ranks higher than it (#5 vs #15 of 212 subwoofers, 4.2/5 vs 4.1/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the SVS SB-3000 is still sold new at $1,149.
The case for the SVS SB-3000: A well made sealed subwoofer with tight, accurate bass and handy app controls, great for music and medium rooms. The catch: Being sealed, it gives up deep-bass output: Audioholics measured 96.6dB at 20Hz and 101.7dB at 25Hz, about 15dB behind the ported SVS PB-3000 from the same series, so a large room or reference-level movie bass may call for a second sub.
Why pick the PSB Speakers SubSeries 450: A 12 inch passive radiator subwoofer with tight, precise bass that suits music as well as movies, now discontinued. Watch for: Output falls to 94.1dB at 20Hz, so the lowest movie effects get far less output than the midbass.
Buy the SVS SB-3000 if you want one new; the PSB Speakers SubSeries 450 is discontinued, so only look for it used.
