The case for the SVS SB-1000 PRO: 12-inch sealed driver delivers 113.9dB CEA-2010-A average, the highest output of any subwoofer in the under-30lb weight class. The catch: As a sealed box it gives up output in the deepest octave: 91dB at 20Hz and 97.7dB at 25Hz, where a ported subwoofer like the RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII reaches 100dB and 105dB.

Why pick the Monitor Audio BRW10: Independent CEA-2010 testing records 70.1 dB at 20 Hz and 107.0 dB through 40-80 Hz. The tradeoff: Deep-bass output is more limited than the strong 40-80 Hz result suggests, so it is not the right choice when the lowest movie effects are the priority.

One note: the Monitor Audio BRW10 is no longer in production and isn’t widely stocked new anymore.

Buy the SVS SB-1000 PRO. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Monitor Audio BRW10 and costs less, so it is the default pick unless a specific strength of the other one matters more to you.
