The Soundcore Boom 3i is the better-sounding, deeper-bass pick. Looks to be designed as a direct competitor to the JBL Charge 5 with a very similar sound profile, warm tuned with boosted bass. Its bass reaches about 56Hz before falling 10dB, against 63Hz for the JBL Charge 3. It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the JBL Charge 3 lacks. It has an adjustable EQ, which the JBL Charge 3 lacks. Watch for: Not quite as good as a JBL Charge 5, doesn’t go quite as loud or sound quite as balanced, but very very close.
What the JBL Charge 3 does well: Doubles as a 6000mAh power bank for USB devices. ~20 hour battery life. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Soundcore Boom 3i lacks. It links with other speakers (Connect+ up to 100 speakers), which the Soundcore Boom 3i cannot. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Soundcore Boom 3i. The tradeoff: Less clarity than the JBL Flip 4.
Buy the Soundcore Boom 3i. It is rated higher for sound quality; the JBL Charge 3 is no longer sold new.
